As 2015 winds down to a close, and as we prepare for the start of what’s certain to be a fabulous 2016, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of our wonderful wedding couples and families of our bat mitzvah and bar mitzvah guests of honor for allowing us to bring your most special celebrations to life. We’re also in awe of our favorite event industry professionals for the phenomenal details, designs and inspiration they brought to every party and wedding this year.

We saw our ballroom, grounds and party spaces transformed by the most innovative lighting and décor, and our top NJ deejays and bands filled our venue with sensational playlists and performances. Our chefs at Strip House at the Westminster Hotel wowed all of our guests with the most gorgeous, most delectable dishes.

I’m very proud of our team, for giving their all to our clients’ events and for treating each of our guests like the VIPs they are.

Some of the top trends that we saw here at Westminster Weddings and Events included unique and personalized food stations, sensational signature drinks, candyland-inspired settings, crystal accents that made the gorgeous lighting sparkle and dance, full dance floor decals personalized to the guest of honor, gorgeous color schemes like turquoise and magenta, and showstopping first dances (including one couple ‘dancing on a cloud.’) We’re proud to be on the New Jersey Bride Love It™ List, to have our wedding couple April and Rich’s big day featured on, and to have several of our bat mitzvahs featured on

Looking ahead to the 2016 wedding trends, we know we’ll see plenty of metallics and PANTONE® shades, classic dinner entrees and creative cocktail party dishes on the farm-fresh, healthy side, stages and lit tables, roped-off lounge areas, lush and luxurious florals, and of course, plenty of bubbly. We can’t wait to see what our 2016 wedding and party clients have in mind, and we’re excited to help them bring their ideas to life!

What NJ Wedding Couples are Spending on the Rehearsal Dinner

NJ wedding couples are spending more on rehearsal dinners

Rehearsal dinners are becoming more important to NJ wedding couples again, after a pretty sizeable drop-off in 2011 when couples opted to slim down their rehearsal dinner guest list, and spend a lot less on the dinner itself.

The ‘do very little for your rehearsal dinner’ trend did not go well. Wedding guests who traveled into town from far away found themselves left out of the rehearsal dinner plans, and those who did get invited weren’t always treated to the best wedding catering and fine wines. It was a time of ‘budget cutting gone bad.’

Now, thankfully, wedding couples are planning standout rehearsal dinners, choosing a fabulous restaurant as the setting (instead of ordering in pizzas at their house party,) planning impressive and indulgent rehearsal dinner menus, raising the bar on fine wines, champagne and signature cocktails, and putting great artistic effort into their rehearsal dinner invitations.

The rehearsal dinner isn’t just something to get through, a place to drink wine the night before the wedding. No matter who hosts the rehearsal dinner – the groom’s parents, all the parents, the two of you – this celebration is once again getting the attention it deserves, even being themed (such as a Speakeasy theme or a color palette you considered for your wedding but chose instead to use on your rehearsal dinner.) As you’ll see here, the trend is spending a bit more on rehearsal dinners each year, although not as much as back in 2010 – yet still achieving a stunning style and details to make this event wonderful for you and for your guests.

Year   Average Spending per Wedding
2008 $1,059
2009 $931
2010 $1,109
2011 $703
2012 $704
2013 $714
2014 $735
2015 $745
2016 $757
2017 $768
2018 $778
2019 $791
2020 $801

Now keep in mind that these are just the average rehearsal dinner budgets for NJ wedding couples. There may be couples out there spending 1/5 of the average rehearsal dinner cost, and there are definitely couples out there spending 5x the average rehearsal dinner cost. (We’ve been home to many impressive rehearsal dinners, hosted by wedding couples who want to treat their guests to an unforgettable meal and together-time, and New Jersey Bride named us as one of the Best Rehearsal Dinner Venues in NJ.)

Contact us to find out more about rehearsal dinners at our on-site and award-winning Strip House in Livingston; our event planner and chef will help you personalize your rehearsal dinner plans.

Westminster Hotel Wedding of April and Rich 5.10.13

We’re delighted to share these photos of April and Rich’s Westminster Hotel Wedding, a celebration of their great love, as well as family. As April and Rich joined their lives together, a very special bond also formed between April and Rich’s daughter. Filipino weddings are known for being tremendous fun and very family-centric, and this wedding showed the best of what a wedding can be when it joins two loving families together.

{We thank Ryan Brenizer Photography for sharing these images with us!}

It’s NJ Blueberry Season at Westminster Hotel Weddings — So Do Blueberry Desserts Three Ways

west blueberry4

It’s Blueberry Picking Season in New Jersey, and since a big trend in wedding menus is incorporating locally-sourced foods, what could be better for your New Jersey Wedding than fresh blueberries? Here, Executive Chef Bill Zucosky works his culinary magic with farm-fresh NJ blueberries in a ‘Blueberries Three Ways’ Dessert Platter that ties into a big wedding catering trend: creating a ‘flight’ of desserts featuring one ingredient, made three ways.

And since pie is such a big wedding trend, sometimes even taking the place of wedding cake, of course blueberry pie has a spot in this trio.

Feast your eyes on Chef Bill Zucosky’s New Jersey Blueberry Dessert Trio: Blueberry Pie, Blueberry Sorbet, and Cheesecake with Blueberry Compote.
